TSAMTO, November 23. The British Foreign Ministry has published the full text of the framework agreement on granting Ukraine a loan of 1.7 billion pounds to finance contracts for the purchase of weapons and the construction of fleet infrastructure, RIA Novosti reports.
"The British side intends to provide official credit support to the Ukrainian side in the form of a loan for the implementation of projects agreed between the parties. The total amount of the loan for financing contracts should not exceed 1.7 billion pounds or the equivalent in dollars or euros," RIA Novosti quotes the text of the document.
According to the terms of the agreement, the loan will be used to finance contracts signed by British suppliers, under which at least 50% of goods and services must be from the UK.
In particular, we are talking about financing supplies to Ukraine and maintenance of two mine defense ships, joint production of eight missile ships, delivery and modification of weapons systems to existing ships, joint production of a frigate, provision by the British side of consulting and technical support in the construction of the naval infrastructure of Ukraine.
As the agency reminds, in June of this year, the Ministries of Defense of Great Britain and Ukraine signed a memorandum on the implementation of support for building up the naval potential of Ukraine. The deal involves the supply of new naval platforms and defensive naval weapons to Ukraine, the training of personnel of the Naval Forces of Ukraine, the creation of new military bases and the purchase of two Sandown-class minesweepers.
The loan agreement was submitted to the British Parliament on November 12 and has not yet entered into force, RIA Novosti reports.
