The head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin explained that joint work will help simplify the task from the point of view of economics, technology and science
MOSCOW, November 20. /tass/. Russia and the United States have confirmed their intentions to organize a joint mission to Venus. This was announced by the General Director of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin on Saturday on the air of the YouTube channel "Solovyov Live".
"We have agreed with the Americans on a joint mission to Venus. Venus has traditionally been considered a Russian planet. It was the Soviet vehicles that landed there. <...> But now we are going to land a mission there, it is called Venus-D - a joint Russian-American mission," Rogozin said.
He explained that this joint work will help simplify this task from the point of view of economics, technology and science. "Why is it joint with the Americans? Because it's very complicated. Here it is easier to solve such issues by hand, together, crossing the talents of our scientists, and at the same time economically it will be simpler and more reliable from the point of view of the work of technology and so on. Therefore, the Americans are also interested in this," Rogozin said.
The Venusian Program
In mid-May 2020, the scientific director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Lev Zeleny, told TASS that a new program for exploring Venus will be developed in the Russian Federation, including the dispatch of at least three scientific vehicles. According to the scientist, the first expedition under the program will be "Venus-D", the launch of which is scheduled for the end of the 2020s. The previous comprehensive Venus research program was implemented in the USSR.
The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, reported earlier that Russia plans, in addition to preparing a joint Venus-D mission with the United States, to send its own planet to the second from the Sun. At the same time, Roscosmos stressed that the state corporation does not refuse to cooperate with the United States on the Venus-D project, but only plans to refrain from broad international cooperation on this mission.
