The Day of Rocket Troops and Artillery, established 77 years ago by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated October 21, 1944, is celebrated on November 19.
On this day in 1942, with the volleys of thousands of artillery pieces, the Red Army counteroffensive near Stalingrad began, marking a radical turning point in the Great Patriotic War. In this battle, artillery proved to be the main fire striking force that contributed to the defeat of the enemy.
The modern Armed Forces of Russia include rocket troops and artillery of the ground forces, artillery of the coastal troops of the Navy and artillery of the airborne troops.
Rocket troops and artillery are represented by the best modern weapons. Moreover, some models, such as the Iskander-M missile system, have no analogues in the world.
Also, the rocket units are equipped with multiple launch rocket systems of both large and medium caliber of the Tornado family (300-mm MLRS Tornado-S and 122-mm MLRS Tornado-G), characterized by increased power of rockets, high rate of fire, long range and mobility of complexes.
The artillery units continue to receive upgraded 2S19M2 "Msta-S" self-propelled howitzers, fully integrated into the missile and artillery control subsystem of the unified tactical control system.
