TSAMTO, November 19. The Republic of Korea has agreed to reduce Indonesia's share payment in a joint project to develop a new generation fighter KF-X (presented in the Republic of Korea as the KF-21 Borame).
According to Yonhap, the Defense Procurement Programs Agency of the Republic of Korea (DAPA) stated that Indonesia will have to pay a total of 1.6 trillion. won ($1.35 billion) or 100 billion. won is lower than the originally planned amount (for reference: the total cost of the KF-21 project is 8.1 trillion. out). The decision was made after lengthy negotiations.
Representatives of the two countries held a total of six rounds of negotiations, the last of which took place on November 11, 2021 in Jakarta. As stated, both sides will hold additional consultations on a detailed plan on how and when Indonesia will pay overdue payments for the defense project, which currently amount to about 800 billion won.
As you know, in accordance with the initial agreement, Indonesia assumed 20% of the costs of developing the aircraft. During the negotiations, the South Korean side agreed to receive payments in goods in the amount of 30% of the Indonesian share.
According to DAPA, a decision on the product range has not yet been made, but Indonesia can count on the supply of its main export product – palm oil.
As previously reported by TSAMTO, the ceremony of rolling out the first prototype of the promising fighter KF-21 "Borame" at the enterprise of the South Korean company KAI in Sacheon took place on April 9, 2021. At the moment, three prototypes have been assembled. The fourth prototype should be ready in December. In total, six prototypes of the aircraft are planned to be produced at the pre-production stage.
Currently, ground tests of the fighter are being conducted, and the first flight tests are scheduled for next year. According to officials, after the development is completed, 40 aircraft are planned to be delivered to the Air Force of the Republic of Kazakhstan by 2028 and another 80 units. - by 2032. The new fighter is designed to replace the aging fleet of F-4 and F-5.
