According to the decision of the President of Russia, it will be possible to increase the age limit for military service for marshals, army generals and fleet admirals. Such a law was approved by the Federation Council on November 19.
"The federal law establishes the legal grounds for concluding a new contract for military service with servicemen who have reached the age limit for military service and have the military ranks of marshal, army general, fleet admiral for a period established by the President of the Russian Federation," said Vladimir Kozhin, first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security.
Now marshals, generals and admirals who have reached the age of 65 can enter into a new contract with the decision of the head of state until they reach the age of 70. Amendments are being made to Article 49 of the Federal Law "On Military Duty and Military Service".
"I think this is the right decision. Young, healthy men still, still serve and serve the Fatherland. Why send them to retirement ahead of time?" - the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko commented on the document.
