Today, biological risks are caused by events primarily related to human activity. This was stated at a meeting of the secretaries of the CIS Security Councils in Moscow by the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev. According to him, these risks in particular include dangerous experiments with viruses and pathogens on potentially dangerous biological objects. As well as the development of genetic engineering, including synthetic biology, which allows the genome to be played for criminal purposes.
"The consequence of this process is a steady trend towards the emergence of new infectious diseases and pandemics," Patrushev said.
According to him, the solution of the issues of warnings and threats to biological safety is currently a priority task at the highest state level.
And in this regard, as the Secretary of the Russian Security Council noted, it is necessary to develop common rules of conduct in the common epidemiological space of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
