The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) named on Tuesday the last member of the fourth crew who will travel on the Crew Dragon ship of the American company SpaceX to the International Space Station (ISS) next spring, they became American Jessica Watkins.
Watkins will fly to the station together with NASA colleagues Chell Lindgren and Bob Hines, as well as European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti. "NASA has appointed Jessica Watkins as a specialist for the Crew-4 mission," the press service of the department informed. It is expected that the formed crew will go on a Falcon 9 rocket to the ISS in April 2022.
Before joining NASA in 2017, 33-year-old Watkins received a degree in geology. Previously, she was part of the scientific team of the Curiosity rover.
Last week, the third crew arrived at the station on the Crew Dragon spacecraft with American astronauts Raja Chari, Tom Marshburn and Kayla Barron, as well as ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer. They will have to spend about six months in orbit. Together with them, Roscosmos cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov and Pyotr Dubrov, as well as NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hai, are on the station.
