The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation published a video that proves that the fragments formed after the test of anti-satellite weapons in space do not pose a threat to the International Space Station. As reported to "Lenta.<url>" in the military department, statements about risks to the ISS are not true.
The specialists prepared a visualization of the movement of the wreckage of the destroyed satellite based on real data, and also carried out modeling of the trajectories of fragments, active orbiters and the ISS. The video shows that the satellites and the station are moving in completely different planes and at a different angle relative to space debris. Also, the ISS orbit is 40-60 kilometers below the wreckage.
At present, continuous monitoring of each orbit around the Earth of fragments of the destroyed spacecraft is carried out with the prediction of the future situation.
Earlier it was reported that Russia conducted tests on November 15, as a result of which the inactive Russian spacecraft "Tselina-D", which had been in orbit since 1982, was hit. In response, the official representative of the US State Department said that Russian tests of anti-satellite weapons in space are reckless. He stressed that allegedly due to such tests of Russia, more than 1,500 fragments and hundreds of thousands of fragments of smaller debris appeared in space, which threatens the interests of all countries.
