Russian Marines are receiving AK-12 assault rifles, according to media reports. On the air of Sputnik radio, military expert Vladislav Shurygin spoke about the advantages of the new weapon.

The Russian Marines began to receive new AK-12 submachine guns, Izvestia writes . The weapons were tested by soldiers of the peacekeeping battalion of the Pacific Fleet, which is currently serving in Nagorno-Karabakh, its rearmament has already been completed, the newspaper reports, citing a source in the Ministry of Defense,

AK-12s will also receive "black berets" of the Black Sea Fleet, Izvestia notes.

On the air of Sputnik radio, a military expert, the head of the military section of the Izborsky Club, Vladislav Shurygin, spoke about the features of the new machine gun.

"The AK-12, which is called the "superautomat", is a deep modernization of the Kalashnikov assault rifle, which is familiar to us. It reinforced his best qualities and compensated for the problems he had to face. Among them is a powerful recoil and, as it was believed, insufficient accuracy, although experienced shooters can argue with this. And, nevertheless, this issue has also been resolved. Today, the ballistics and ergonomics of the machine gun are such that even an inexperienced shooter can shoot like a highly trained fighter," Vladislav Shurygin said.

This does not exhaust the advantages of the AK-12, he continued.

"The machine has become more "applied", that is, it has become more convenient to use, it has received several convenient so-called body kits – various devices that can be attached to the machine, starting with a flashlight and ending with an optical collimator or a night sight. This is such a powerful development of small arms," Vladislav Shurygin added.

The Kalashnikov AK-12 5.45 mm caliber assault rifle was created in the period 2012-2015 as part of the development work "Ratnik". In 2016-2017, the AK-12 batch underwent controlled operation in airborne units, ground forces, and marines. According to the results of the tests, a recommendation was received on the adoption of the AK-12 into service. The machine has been supplied to the troops since 2018.
