Belarus expects to equip its troops with new equipment, including Russian Iskander tactical missile systems. They can be placed in the western and southern direction.
This was stated by the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in an interview with the National Defense magazine. "I need several divisions in the western and southern direction, let them stand. This is 500 kilometers (launch range), because our "Polonaise" is up to 300 kilometers. The launches were missiles at the Zapad-2021 exercises, one missile hit the target with a (probable circular) deviation of four meters," the head of state explained.
He recalled that the country has significantly modernized its troops four times - both technically, organizationally, and on a regular basis. According to Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus is ready for a possible ground operation in the event of an attack.
- We see where it is necessary to strike with a missile, and to use the "Point" and (SAM) "Buk-MB". Excellent weapon "Buk" - (anti-aircraft guided) missile was made, the launcher is new. A lot of things have been done on armored vehicles, mobility is very important now, so we have created vehicles for MZKT, armored vehicles, eight-nine people crew, like an APC," he explained.
Belarus is among the potential customers of the Russian S-500 anti-missile system along with India, China and Algeria. Also in autumn, the Belarusian army received a batch of Russian BTR-82A.
