The exercises of the Romanian, US, Turkish and Ukrainian Navies in the Black Sea are one of the key components of an integrated deterrence strategy. On Saturday, November 13, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin wrote on Twitter.
"I often talk about the concept of "integrated deterrence" as a way to deter future military threats," he said.
An important aspect of the deterrence strategy is to conduct "joint ground, air and sea exercises," the Pentagon chief added.
At the moment, US vessels consisting of the destroyer Porter, the ship Mount Whitney and the tanker John Lenthall are in the Black Sea, which are performing maneuvers as part of the exercises of the US Sixth Fleet and naval strike forces and NATO support forces, which started on October 30.
USS Mount Whitney made a stop in Istanbul on November 1. However, not all residents of the city were happy about the visit of the Americans. So, the Turkish communists hung a banner on one of the bridges at once in two languages addressing the crew: Yankee, go home ("Yankee, go home." - Ed.).
On November 8, three US ships arrived at the Georgian port of Batumi. On November 10, they left Georgia and arrived at the Romanian port of Constance on November 12.
Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about US warships at a meeting in Sochi on defense issues on November 1. The US Navy ship that entered the Black Sea can be seen through binoculars or the sight of defense equipment, he said.
The Head of State noted that Moscow will respond to attempts to break strategic parity adequately to the situation. He drew attention to the fact that currently the foreign colleagues of the Russian Federation are deploying elements of global missile defense in close proximity to the borders of Russia.
