The private company PLD Space has introduced a reusable suborbital rocket Miura 1. It was the first carrier developed in Spain.
Today, the Spanish company PLD Space held a presentation of the reusable Miura 1 suborbital rocket. It is assumed that it will output up to 100 kilograms of payload and will be able to reach an altitude of about 150 kilometers in 120 seconds.
The carrier has one stage. The length of the rocket is 12.5 meters, and the diameter is 0.7 meters. She will return using engines and parachutes. They wanted to launch the rocket back in 2020, but this was prevented by problems with the power plant. Now the first launch should be carried out next year.
The Spaniards plan to use the experience gained to create a more powerful Miura 5 carrier, which will put up to 300 kilograms of cargo into low Earth orbit. It is going to be launched in 2024.
PLD Space was founded in 2011. As of 2021, the number of employees is 70 people.
Russia is also actively working on the creation of a reusable rocket . Earlier it became known that Roscosmos ordered engines for a promising carrier that will receive a returnable winged stage.
