Ekaterinburg. November 12. INTERFAX - Military personnel of artillery units of the 201st military base in Tajikistan have completed about 500 firing tasks with shooting this year in the course of combat training activities, the Central Military District (CVO) reported on Friday.

"Artillery crews inflicted fire damage on single and area targets. BM-21 "Grad", "Hurricane" multiple rocket launchers, 122-mm 2S1 "Gvozdika" self-propelled artillery units, 152-mm 2S3 "Acacia" self-propelled artillery units, 120-mm mortar complexes "Sani" and Kornet anti-tank missile systems recently entered service with the Russian compound were involved in combat firing," the press service of the district said.

According to the military, all tasks were fulfilled with the use of unmanned aerial vehicles "Orlan-10", "Aileron", "Tachyon", "Grenade", as well as the radar complex of reconnaissance and fire control "Aistenok".

"The main exam for gunners in the academic year was the joint international exercises that took place in the south of Tajikistan. In harsh physical and geographical conditions, the servicemen performed about 50 firing tasks to destroy armored vehicles and manpower of a conditional enemy who had taken refuge in the folds of the terrain at a distance of up to 20 kilometers," the Central Military District added.

The 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan is Russia's largest military facility outside of its borders (part of the Central Military District). It is located in two cities - Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It consists of motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance units, air defense units, RCB protection and communications.

Against the background of the Taliban movement coming to power in Afghanistan (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation), the Russian military reported on strengthening the base in Tajikistan with new weapons.

In addition, this summer and autumn, Russia held several exercises in Tajikistan near the Afghan border, including international ones. Several thousand servicemen took part in the maneuvers, and military equipment was also involved. The basis of the Russian contingent at the exercises were the units of the 201st base.
