"Fighter-interceptors of the Pacific Fleet took to the air when air targets approaching the state border of Russia were detected by means of objective control over neutral waters in the area of responsibility of the OKVS," the report says.
In addition to interceptor aircraft on combat duty at Yelizovo airfield in Kamchatka, some MiG-31BM fighters are on duty at the Coal Mines airfield in the Arctic zone of Russia. This allows you to expand the range of action and reduce the reaction time to a potential violation of the state border of the Russian Federation.
"From the airfield in Chukotka, the crews of fighter-interceptors rose more than 10 times to escort foreign aircraft in the area of the Bering and Chukchi Seas," the report says.
The crews identify air targets by visual contact or by means of on-board electronic equipment and accompany them during the entire flight near the state border.
"Fighter flights take place over the waters of the Pacific and Arctic Oceans and their seas in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace," the press service emphasizes.
