Adjustments have been made to the test program of the RS-28 Sarmat heavy ballistic missile. Instead of the two launches planned for 2021, one will take place.
- As part of the flight design tests, one launch is planned for 2021. Five more are planned to be completed within the framework of the LKI in 2022," a source in the military-industrial complex told TASS. The Agency does not have official confirmation of this information.
In case of successful LKI, a decision will be made to adopt the Sarmat, the agency interlocutor continued. The first regiment of the RS-28 is planned to be put on combat duty in a limited composition: a command post and several mine launchers. Later, the part will be brought to full-time staff.
The main feature of the rocket is the thrust reserve - it is enough to deliver a splitting head weighing 10 tons to any point of the globe. The increased power allows the RS-28 to fly along unexpected trajectories for the enemy, bypassing the missile defense zones. "It flies through both poles," the military said.
