TSAMTO, November 8. The Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom has concluded an agreement with Egypt on the sale of two decommissioned auxiliary replenishment vessels of ships in the sea of the Fort class, Fort Rosalie (Fort Rosalie) and Fort Austin (Fort Austin).
As stated in the press release of the Defense Equipment Sales Authority (DESA) of the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom dated October 29, the former vessels of the British Navy, whose service life exceeds 40 years, will be repaired and re-equipped before delivery to Cairo.
Fort Rosalie (A385) and Fort Austin (A386) were officially decommissioned earlier this year and put up for sale. They will be replaced by FSS-class support ships (Fleet Support Ships), which will be part of the British carrier strike group.
Egypt has already begun negotiations with the Birkenhead-based shipbuilding and ship repair group Cammell Laird on the restoration and refitting of two ships. Both of them are moored at the docks of Bidston (Birkenhead County).
Built by Scott Lithgow and accepted into the British Navy in 1978 and 1979, respectively, "Fort Rosalie" and "Fort Austin– are auxiliary ships designed to deliver ammunition, dry supplies and food for naval task forces. The displacement of the ships is 23400 tons . Up to 3,500 tons of cargo can be placed in four holds with a volume of 12,800 cubic meters. The vessels are equipped with three 10-ton and three 5-ton cranes, two helipads.
