The flagship of the Sixth Fleet of the US Navy Mount Whitney and the accompanying destroyer Porter entered the port of Batumi. This was informed at the US Embassy in Georgia.
"Welcome, Mount Whitney and Porter! Five years later, the flagship of the Sixth Fleet of the US Navy, Mount Whitney, returned to Georgia," the diplomatic mission's Facebook page says. The embassy reminded that this is not the first time Mount Whitney has been in the port of Batumi, in recent years he has been here five times.
Recall that the flagship of the Sixth Fleet of the US Navy entered the Black Sea last week. According to the National Defense Control Center of the Russian Federation, the ship's movements are monitored by the forces and means of the Black Sea Fleet. According to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, "this is a constant attempt to test us, to check how ready we are, how well we have built the entire system along the Black Sea coast, in general, in the south of our country."
It is worth noting that Mount Whitney is a Blue Ridge type command ship. It is designed to manage large-scale amphibious operations and use as a floating headquarters. It has no serious missile armament. It is equipped with a pair of 35 mm cannons, several machine guns and a small-range ship anti-aircraft system.
