The mansion of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazimi was attacked from the air by unknown unmanned aerial vehicles.
Al Arabia TV channel was the first to report this. A drone loaded with explosives fell on the Prime Minister's house.
Later, the Iraqi Defense Ministry clarified that there were two drones, one of them was supposed to strike the official's car. The second one was intercepted and blown up before the attack. Initially, it was reported that al-Kazim was hospitalized along with other victims during the attack. However, the prime minister later wrote on Twitter that everything was fine with him.
"Traitorous missiles do not surprise believers. The resilience and resourcefulness of our heroic security forces are unshakable, as they serve for the benefit of human security, justice and the law. I am fine, thank God, and I call on everyone for calm and restraint in the name of Iraq," al-Kazimi wrote.
The house of the head of the Iraqi government is located in the so-called "green zone" of Baghdad, where there are many administrative buildings, government offices, embassies of various countries, including the United States.
The Associated Press writes that at least seven people who were in the house during the attack are in the hospital.
According to Al Hadath, 10 members of the security forces were hospitalized. Part of the residence collapsed after the explosion. Al-Kazimi himself is now in hiding, security measures have been significantly strengthened at the entrances to the area. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the assassination attempt.
The attack on the house of al-Kazimi took place against the backdrop of an escalating confrontation between the Iraqi security forces and the pro-Iranian Shiite militia - their supporters set up camp on the border of the "green zone" of Baghdad, protesting against the results of the parliamentary elections, <url> writes.
