The SIRIUS-2021 isolation experiment will start on November 4 in Moscow at the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences
MOSCOW, November 4. /tass/. The emblem with the flags of the countries participating in the SIRIUS-2021 experiment, as well as the names of all 12 applicants for crew members, will become the mascot of the project participants. This was announced to journalists on Thursday by the crew commander Oleg Blinov.
He noted that during the preparation for the experiment, 12 members of the main and backup crews became a real family. Therefore, it was decided to choose an emblem uniting them all as the mascot of the mission.
"The emblem shows a photo of the star Sirius, the Moon and space gloves. The flags of all the countries of the crew members and the names of 12 applicants are also depicted," Blinov said.
In turn, US Representative William Brown noted that his mascot for the 240-day isolation will be a cap with flags of the milestones of the countries where he visited.
The SIRIUS-2021 isolation experiment will start on November 4 in Moscow at the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
About the experiment
The test volunteers will have to "get" to the Moon within 240 days, "fly around" it to find a landing site, "land" on the surface of the Moon and return back. Specially for the experiment, spacesuits with a helmet with elements of virtual reality have been prepared, in which the crew will go to the "surface" of the Moon. It is assumed that the researchers will take soil samples and control the model of the lunar rover. The crew will be in an autonomous ground complex and communicate only with the experiment control center via audio communication. Communication with relatives and relatives will be available via e-mail.
The SIRIUS International project (Scientific International Research In Unique Terrestrial Station, Scientific international research in a unique terrestrial complex) is carried out jointly by the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the NASA Human Research Program with the participation of space agencies of Russia, Germany and Canada, as well as specialists from Russia, the USA, Germany, France, Italy and other countries.
The SIRIUS project provides for a whole series of isolation experiments. The first one took place in November 2017, when the crew spent 17 days in isolation. The isolation lasted for four months in 2018-2019. It is also planned to conduct three experiments lasting a year until 2028.
