This is the flagship of the Sixth Fleet of the US Navy. Earlier it was reported that American sailors will enter the waters to interact with NATO allies.
Mount Whitney is a command ship of the Blue Ridge type, which is used as a floating headquarters. It is armed with several 35-millimeter cannons, machine guns and a short-range naval air defense system.
Vessels of the Sixth Fleet, as a rule, conduct operations in the Mediterranean Sea and adjacent Atlantic waters, but they can also be used for other operations in Europe and Africa.
