MOSCOW, November 2. /tass/. The Kalashnikov Group of Companies intends to develop modifications of the latest Russian 5.45mm RPL-20 light machine gun for 7.62 x 39 and 5.56 x 45 mm cartridges. This was reported to TASS by Deputy General Director - Chief Designer of Kalashnikov Sergey Urzhumtsev.
"In the future, Kalashnikov plans to create modifications of the RPL-20 for 7,62x39 and 5,56x45 mm cartridges, which in the future may be of interest to foreign customers," he said.
According to him, Russia has potential in the international market of fire support weapons. "Russia is not yet a supplier of light machine guns, and Kalashnikov has the opportunity to enter this very competitive market with its products," Urzhumtsev added.
According to the concern, in Russia, the RPL-20 will be used in units of the Ground Forces, Airborne Forces and Special Operations Forces.
Earlier, TASS reported that this light machine gun will partially become part of the promising equipment "Centurion". The RPL-20 machine gun chambered in 5.45x39 mm was first presented at the international military-technical forum "Army 2020".
