The first launch of the carrier with OneWeb satellites in 2022 is scheduled for January 27
MOSCOW, November 2. /tass/. Most of the launches of British OneWeb communications satellites in 2022 will be carried out from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. This was reported to TASS by a source in the rocket and space industry.
"Basically, the launches of OneWeb satellites next year will take place from Baikonur," the agency interlocutor noted.
According to the source, the first launch of the Soyuz launch vehicle with OneWeb satellites from Baikonur in 2022 is scheduled for January 27. Before that, the British vehicles will be withdrawn on January 6 from Kourou in French Guiana.
In 2021, the main part of the launches (five) under the program was carried out from the Vostochny cosmodrome. Two more are from Baikonur, from there the launch of the Soyuz-2.1b rocket with OneWeb satellites is expected on December 27.
OneWeb's updated agreement with Arianespace (launch operator) involves the launch of 16 Russian Soyuz rockets from the Kourou, Vostochny and Baikonur cosmodromes in 2020-2022. Each launch will allow to put into orbit from 34 to 36 vehicles.
The British OneWeb satellites are designed to create a space communication system that provides high-speed Internet access anywhere on Earth. On April 9, Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Rogozin told reporters that the first-generation OneWeb system will be created in late 2022 - early 2023.
