MOSCOW, November 1. /tass/. Three citizens of the Russian Federation, two Americans and one representative of the UAE joined the crew of the SIRIUS-21 international isolation experiment, during which six volunteers will spend 240 days in isolation. This was reported to TASS on Monday in the press service of the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, on the basis of which the experiment will be conducted.
"The composition of the crew has been decided: Oleg Vladimirovich Blinov (Russia), Victoria Vladimirovna Kirichenko (Russia), Ekaterina Sergeevna Karyakina (Russia), William Brown (USA), Ashley Kowalski (USA) and Saleh Omar al-Ameri (UAE)," the institute said.
The planned start date of SIRIUS isolation experiments is November 4.
The SIRIUS International project (Scientific International Research In Unique Terrestrial Station, Scientific international research in a unique terrestrial complex) is carried out jointly by the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the NASA Human Research Program with the participation of space agencies of Russia, Germany and Canada, as well as specialists from Russia, the USA, Germany, France, Italy and other countries.
During SIRIUS 2021, a crew of six volunteers will be cut off from the world for eight months. The crew will be in an autonomous ground complex and communicate only with the experiment control center via audio communication. Communication with relatives and relatives will be available via e-mail. During the isolation, a real lunar expedition will be simulated: a flight to the Moon, an orbital flyby to search for a landing site, landing and exiting to the surface, as well as returning to Earth.
