Russian President Vladimir Putin called for the modernization of the aerospace defense system (EKO). This is reported by Interfax.
During the meeting, the head of state called the requirements for the upgraded EKO system. "The updated EKO system should detect hypersonic and ballistic targets of all types at long range, and then be able to destroy them on the entire flight path," he said.
Putin also stressed the need to increase the pace of production of existing equipment for East Kazakhstan Region and establish the production of new samples.
Earlier, TASS reported on the arrival of S-500 anti-aircraft missile systems in the units of the 15th Special Purpose Army of the Russian Aerospace Forces. The S-500 will provide protection for Moscow and the Central Industrial Region.
In September, the Russian Defense Ministry announced successful tests of a new missile defense system. The launch at the Sary-Shagan test site in Kazakhstan confirmed the inherent characteristics of the munition.
