Rome. October 31. INTERFAX - Russia fully supports the return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iran Nuclear Deal (JCPOA) in the form in which the agreement was concluded, without exceptions and additions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"If contacts become more active, it seems that the parties want to reach an agreement. It can be resumed only in the very form in which it was approved by the UN Security Council in 2015, any additions, any exceptions are unacceptable to the Iranian side, and we fully support this approach," Lavrov told reporters, answering a question from Interfax about whether the intensification of contacts could lead to the parties returning to the execution of the deal.
"If we agreed on something, and if someone then retreated from the agreements, we need to seek a return to its full respect and compliance," he added.
Last Saturday, on the sidelines of the G20 summit, a meeting on the Iranian nuclear dossier was held with the participation of representatives of the United States, Great Britain, France and Germany.
Earlier this week, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bakeri-Kani announced Tehran's agreement to resume negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program by the end of November. He said that the exact date for the resumption of negotiations will be announced next week.
In 2015, Iran and the "six" countries - the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany - concluded the JCPOA to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue. Former US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018 and resumed anti-Iranian sanctions, which prompted Tehran to gradually abandon compliance with the terms of the deal.
