Production of the GI-4 automatic carbine, a localized version of the American M4, has begun in Georgia. Production has been deployed at the Delta Military technical center at the facilities of the Georgian-Israeli enterprise Delta CAA Arms, the press service of the government of the country reported.
- We imported the most modern equipment from the USA, - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said at the opening ceremony of the plant. He promised to establish the production of NATO-standard weapons in the country while still being the Minister of Defense.
The license for the production of carbines in Tbilisi was sold by an Israeli company, whose name is not disclosed. She also trained the staff and will control the production.
The M-4 is a 5.56 mm automatic carbine, based on the M16 rifle. The carbine differs from it by a shortened barrel and a telescopic butt. In service since 1994. Until now, American weapons have been purchased for the needs of the Georgian armed forces and police special forces.
