Moscow. October 30. INTERFAX - Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev on the eve of the climate summit in Glasgow said that Russia is ready to accept spent nuclear fuel (SNF) from other countries for storage.
"Taking into account the entire production chain from the extraction of raw materials to the production of electricity, a nuclear power plant emits almost 70 times less CO2 into the atmosphere than coal-fired thermal power plants. And three times less than even "green" solar energy," Patrushev said in an interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper.
"Russia stores spent nuclear fuel safely for the environment on the territory of its country and is ready to accept it for storage from other countries where nuclear generation is recognized as the most important energy source of the 21st century," the Secretary of the Security Council said.
He noted that Russia supports the development of nuclear energy as an alternative to fossil fuel plants and promotes this initiative at all international climate platforms.
