This satellite could be launched in 2022
MEXICO CITY, October 28. /tass/. Kursk Southwestern State University will take part in the work on the first space satellite of Nicaragua, which can be launched in 2022. This was reported on Wednesday by the Nicaraguan government portal El 19 Digital with reference to Russian cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin, who is now in the republic.
"We would like your young people to have this dream, so that Nicaragua has a real companion," the publication quotes him as saying.- And you will understand that the knowledge gained by young people who participated in these projects, used formulas for calculating energy consumption, thermoregulation and so-called space ballistics, are equally applicable to the creation of both small and large satellites. And after a short time, I am sure you will be proud to find your first cosmonaut."
Yurchikhin explained that Nicaraguan students will work on the creation of the apparatus together with students and teachers of Southwestern State University, which is already developing a number of similar projects in Latin America. Oin expressed hope that one of the 10 student satellites scheduled for launch in 2022 will be Nicaraguan.
The beginning of Russian-Nicaraguan cooperation in space was laid with the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes. The first GLONASS station in Central America, opened in Nicaragua in April 2017, was named "Chaika" in honor of the call sign of the world's first female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova.
