The German Foreign Ministry expressed concern about Ukraine's use of the Bayraktar attack drone in the Donbas. To this, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnyk said that Ukraine has a legitimate right to defend itself. The position of the German Foreign Ministry was announced today at a briefing by its representative Andrea Sasse.
"Berlin is very concerned about the increase in the intensity of hostilities in the east of Ukraine, as well as the message of the General Staff of the Ukrainian army, according to which the Ukrainian Armed Forces used a Bayraktar-type drone in response to the shelling and the death of one and the wounding of another soldier," Sasse said.
She added that "drones are used by all parties, although the Minsk agreements allow this exclusively to the OSCE mission."
Ambassador Melnik categorically objected to the representative of Germany in a comment by Bild. "The Ukrainian side categorically rejects today's warning from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," because Ukraine has "a legitimate right to self-defense if its territory is bombarded by heavy Russian weapons day and night, and civilians and soldiers are dying," the diplomat said.
Ukraine, for its part, "calls on the German government, instead of expressing concern about the dramatic situation in the occupied territories, to redouble its efforts as a mediator to convene the Normandy summit in Berlin," Melnyk said.
Yesterday, the militants fired several times at the positions of the OOS in the Granitnoye area of the Donetsk region, as well as the settlement itself. As a result, a Ukrainian soldier was killed, another was injured, and six houses of civilians were damaged. In response, the AFU raised the Bayraktar UAV and destroyed one of the occupiers' howitzers with a rocket, from which they fired.
The Kremlin threatens to "destabilize the situation" on the contact line in the Donbas due to Ukraine's use of UAVs.
