The Russian Defense Ministry has decided to completely re-equip the units of the Southern Military District (SE) with new portable air defense missile systems "Willow".
This is the most modern MANPADS, which in many respects is not inferior to heavier air defense systems.
It is capable of shooting down almost any targets - from airplanes to miniature drones. By the end of the year, the Southern Federal District should receive more than a hundred sets of such complexes. Deliveries of MANPADS are expected next year.
Experts note that the "Willow" will significantly strengthen the air defense of ground units.
As sources in the military department told Izvestia, a fundamental decision on the complete rearmament of the Southern Military District with new portable air defense missile systems "Willow" has already been made. Anti-aircraft gunners of the Southern Military District will receive new items in full configuration - in addition to the MANPADS themselves, radar equipment, as well as automated control systems and armored vehicles for the transportation of personnel will be supplied.
The Ministry of Defense has already reported that the first 50 sets of this air defense complex in the summer of 2021 received a motorized rifle unit stationed in the Stavropol Territory.
