TSAMTO, October 29. Russia should contribute to the establishment of a no-fly zone over the Donbass after Ukraine began using Bayraktar attack UAVs to protect Russian citizens living there, Director of the TSAMTO Igor Korotchenko told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that the military used the Bayraktar strike UAV for the first time in the Donbass: a drone with a guided bomb destroyed an enemy cannon.
"One of the possible retaliatory actions could be the establishment by Russia of a no–fly zone over the Donbass in order to save the lives of citizens of the Russian Federation who live on the territory of the DPR and LPR," I. Korotchenko said. He called Ukraine's interest in Turkish drones understandable after their effectiveness "was confirmed during the second Karabakh war."
"It is difficult to say whether such a decision on a no-fly zone will be made or not, but in any case, it is absolutely obvious that the fact of the use of Bayraktars by the Ukrainian military ... should not remain without a response from the Russian Federation. What it will be, the events of the near future will show," I. Korotchenko added.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the country had purchased attack drones from Turkey to "deter" Russia and protect its territory. Later, the press service of the office of the Ukrainian president reported that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Turkish company Bayraktar signed a memorandum on the construction of a joint center for the maintenance and modernization of drones near Kiev.
