The annual US military spending on the purchasing power index is comparable to the combined defense spending of China and Russia, writes USNI News.
It is noted that wages in China are lower than in the United States, as a result of which the former receives much more labor than the latter. It is noted that Beijing widely uses dual-use technologies, the costs of which are often taken into account as investments in the civilian sector. China is also buying modern weapons from Russia.
The publication notes that over the past 26 years, the official share of defense spending in China has remained relatively unchanged at 1.7 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP). Currently, Beijing's official annual defense budget is $252 billion, Washington's is $752.9 billion (3.7 percent of GDP).
Data available to USNI News indicates that official defense spending published by countries does not measure their military effectiveness.
In October, the American magazine Popular Mechanics noted that two main allied power blocs are being formed in the Indo-Pacific region, as evidenced by recent naval exercises.
In the same month, the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Arsenal of the Fatherland" Viktor Murakhovsky said RIA Novosti reports that the purchase by the United States for seven million dollars of the latest modification of the Ukrainian tank "Oplota" is explained by the interest in the development of former Soviet tank-building enterprises.
