CAIRO, October 26. /tass/. Russian and Egyptian paratroopers performed group parachute jumps on Tuesday before the final stage of the Defenders of Friendship - 2021 exercises taking place near Cairo. The servicemen worked out a joint landing from the Il-76MD aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces approximately 60 km from the Egyptian capital.
The exercises of the Russian Airborne Forces and the Egyptian paratroopers began a week ago at a base near the city of Inshas. According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, more than 100 servicemen of the airborne assault Caucasian Cossack regiment of the Novorossiysk airborne assault mountain unit, four Il-76MD military transport aircraft and equipment consisting of six combat vehicles of the landing and two vehicles of the support unit are taking part in the maneuvers from the Russian side. Over 400 Egyptian military personnel, C-130 Hercules aircraft and heavy military transport helicopters Chinook of the ARE Air Force are also involved.
The paratroopers have already conducted a joint landing training from helicopters, worked out cooperation in the preparation and conduct of combat operations during the destruction of illegal armed formations in a desert area. On Tuesday morning, two Il-76MDs, together with Egyptian C-130 and C-295, took off from the Cairo-Vostochny airbase near the capital's international airport, delivered military personnel to the landing site. On October 27, they and two more Russian transporters with equipment will take part in the main phase of the exercises, a demonstration landing will be held in Inshas.
The Defenders of Friendship - 2021 exercises are being held for the fifth time, they will end on October 29. Before that, paratroopers from Russia and Egypt practiced joint actions in Russian and Egyptian cities. In 2019, servicemen of the special operations forces of the Armed Forces of Belarus took part in the exercises.
