The parties agreed that it would be necessary to establish cooperation between Moscow and London in a number of areas
Moscow. October 25. INTERFAX - Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the Kremlin's press service reported.
"The climate issues were discussed in detail - in the light of the ongoing preparations by the British side for the upcoming summit of world leaders in Glasgow on November 1-2, which will open the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change," the message says.
According to the press service, the Russian side noted the commitment to international obligations and the intention to consistently reduce the "carbon footprint" of the national economy.
"Johnson welcomed Russia's plans to achieve carbon neutrality no later than 2060. Putin noted that the Russian delegation sent to Glasgow will contribute to the successful work of such an important international forum," the press service noted.
Putin and Johnson also exchanged assessments of the situation in bilateral relations. "A mutual opinion was expressed that despite the existence of known problems, it would be necessary to establish cooperation between Moscow and London in a number of areas," the Kremlin said.
Some topical issues of the international agenda were also considered.
"When discussing the situation in Afghanistan, Vladimir Putin informed about the results of the consultations of the "extended troika" held last week in the Russian capital and the meeting within the framework of the Moscow format," the message says.
The leaders "spoke in favor of maintaining the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian Nuclear Program, which is an important factor in ensuring security and maintaining the nuclear nonproliferation regime," the press service noted.
Putin, as reported in the press service, "outlined in detail Russia's approach to the settlement of the internal Ukrainian conflict with the unconditional implementation of the Minsk agreements."
"It was agreed that the parties will maintain the necessary contacts on the issues raised in the conversation," the Kremlin added.
For its part, Downing Street reported following the conversation that Johnson said in a telephone conversation with Putin that relations between the two countries are not at the level they would like, they reported on Monday.
