Turkey managed to negotiate with South Korea on the supply of tank engines. Yesterday, October 23, the portal armyrecognition.com He announced that Altay tanks will receive Doosan Infracore DV27K powerplants with a capacity of 1500 hp.
It is not yet known whether the 12-cylinder water-cooled diesel engine will be supplied from South Korea, or whether their licensed production will be established in Turkey. The parties have not yet disclosed the volume of deliveries and the amount of the transaction.

The request of the Turkish company BMC to the South Korean industry became known last year. In addition, Turkey considered the possibility of installing Ukrainian tank engines in Altay, and is also developing its own power plant.
The Turks also intended to supply Altay with an MTU engine and a RENK transmission, but negotiations with German manufacturers failed due to an arms embargo on Turkey. Turkey had a similar problem with France, which was supposed to supply armor for the Altay tank, so the program for creating the first Turkish tank stalled for several years.
Altay is a promising third-generation main battle tank. The car is named after Army General Fahrettin Altai (1880-1974), who commanded the 5th Cavalry Corps during the Turkish War of Independence of 1919-1923. In 2007, the military ordered the development of a tank by the Turkish company Otokar, and in 2011 the first prototype was born (four pre-production models were assembled in total). During the development of Altay, Otokar worked closely with the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Rotem, which had previously developed the K-2 Black Panther, one of the most high-tech tanks in the world.
The mass of the Altay tank is 60 tons, the car can accelerate up to 70 km/ h and has a power reserve of 500 km. The length of the tank is 7.3 m (with a gun - 10.3 m), width - 3.9 m, height - 2.6 m. The crew consists of four people: the commander, the gunner, the loader and the driver. The main armament of the tank is a 120-mm smoothbore cannon (ammunition - 57 shells), auxiliary - a remotely controlled module with 12.7 or 7.62 mm machine guns or a 40-mm automatic grenade launcher. One of the key features of the Altay tank is the AKKOR active protection system. It is expected that the cost of one production car will be $ 5.5 million.
