It became the first cargo ship to dock to the module
MOSCOW, October 22. /tass/. The Progress MS-17 cargo transport ship, which undocked from the Poisk small research module on Thursday night, docked at the Nauka multipurpose laboratory module, follows from the broadcast on the Roscosmos website.
Thus, Progress MS-17 became the first cargo ship to dock with the multipurpose laboratory module Nauka. Before that, only the Soyuz MS-18 manned spacecraft docked to it.
After the undocking that took place the day before, the ship performed a departure from the station and hovered in anticipation of the calculated ballistic conditions. The autonomous flight of Progress lasted more than a day.
The docking maneuver was necessary to prepare the Nauka module for the reception of the new Berth node module. The Progress MS-17 cargo ship is to finally leave the ISS and descend from orbit immediately before the launch of the Progress M-UM module transport vehicle with a node module in November.
Progress MS is a Russian automated spacecraft that was created specifically for servicing orbital stations. It is used to deliver various cargoes to the ISS (fuel, scientific equipment, oxygen, water, food, etc.), as well as to adjust its orbit.
