MOSCOW, October 21. /tass/. The State Duma on Thursday adopted in the first reading a bill allowing to increase by the decision of the President of the Russian Federation the age limit for military service for a marshal, army general and fleet admiral.
The document was submitted to the Chamber by Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the draft law, "for the period established by the decision of the President of the Russian Federation," a new contract on military service can be concluded with servicemen who have reached the age limit for military service and have the military rank of marshal of the Russian Federation, army general or fleet admiral. According to the current legislation, the age limit for military service for them is 65 years, a new contract with them can be concluded before reaching the age of 70.
"In some cases, there is a need to extend the contract with the most experienced and highly qualified servicemen who have the military rank of Marshal of the Russian Federation, army General, fleet admiral, and after they reach the specified age," the explanatory note says. In this regard, the initiative "provides for the establishment by the decision of the President of the Russian Federation of the term of the contract when it is extended."
As Andrei Kartapolov, the head of the State Duma Committee on Defense, noted in turn, "the changes introduced will have a positive impact on ensuring the country's defense and securing senior officers with extensive experience in military service, possessing professionally important qualities, capable of fulfilling tasks to ensure the defense and security of the state in any given conditions."
