TSAMTO, October 21. The Israeli company Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and the South Korean Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) signed a memorandum of understanding on October 20 within the framework of the program for the development and production of barrage ammunition.
According to Defense News, citing an IAI press release, the agreement was concluded within the framework of the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition ADEX 2021, which takes place from October 19 to 23 at the Seongnam Air Base (south of Seoul).
According to IAI's Executive Vice President of Marketing, Khudi Lahav, "within the framework of the memorandum, IAI will expand cooperation with one of the leading South Korean companies and share its technologies in this area, proven in combat conditions."
Chan Hong-han, Executive Vice President and head of KAI's future barrage ammunition business unit, announced the company's intentions to take a leading position in the world in the development of new-generation barrage ammunition.
In March of this year, IAI and KAI signed a framework agreement on cooperation in the field of creating barrage munitions, taking into account the plans of the Republic of Korea to promote the concept of using manned / unmanned aircraft systems MUM-T (manned-unmanned teaming). According to this scheme, the KAI helicopter hovers at a certain distance from the target, and the onboard unmanned aerial vehicle finds the target and, if necessary, hits it.
According to the IAI, the technologies used in the development of Harpy NGW and HAROP barrage ammunition will be transferred to the South Korean side.
