The United States has nothing to defend against Russian and Chinese long-range missiles. This was stated during a virtual round table on American air defense, which was organized by the Alliance on Missile Defense.
According to The National Interest, during the round table, the top military leadership emphasized the vulnerability of the United States to Chinese and Russian long-range missiles. Opponents have the opportunity to use weapons that can hit critical infrastructure in the United States from a long distance at an early stage of the conflict, said Colonel Christopher Struve, deputy director of the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
We talked about the island of Guam, it is one of the westernmost US military facilities, it is located about the same distance from Japan and Australia and only 2,700 kilometers southeast of Taiwan. Guam is becoming one of the main US bases in the western Pacific Ocean. There are several important military facilities on the island, including infrastructure for submarines and ships, as well as a large airbase where strategic bombers can be deployed.
Given the importance of Guam and the danger posed by ballistic missiles and hypersonic weapons, strengthening the island's air defense is a priority for the United States, Colonel Struve said.
