TSAMTO, October 20. The French shipbuilding company OCEA announced its victory in an international tender for the supply of a 35-meter hydrographic vessel of the OSV-115 SC-WB class for the Nigerian Navy.
The new order was received after OCEA delivered 18 ships of various types to the Nigerian Navy over the past 8 years, including the 60-meter hydrographic vessel "Lana" of the OSV-190 SC-WB class, two 35-meter patrol boats of the FPB-110 MK class.2 and two 17-meter C-FALCON interceptor boats in 2020.
The delivery of the new vessel will expand the capabilities of the Nigerian Navy to conduct geodetic and hydrographic studies, search and rescue operations, oil spill response operations, support diving operations, patrolling territorial waters. The ordered vessel will be used in conjunction with the previously delivered hydrographic vessel "Lana".
To perform these tasks, the vessel will be equipped with research equipment, including a multibeam echo sounder, a single-beam echo sounder, water sampling, storage and analysis facilities, an on-board laboratory, and a 5.6 m long boat equipped for research.
The length of the new ship will be 35 m, maximum speed - 12 knots, cruising range - 3000 nautical miles at a speed of 10 knots, crew - 12 people (plus passengers).
As reported by TSAMTO, in the spring of 2018, the Nigerian Navy signed a contract with OCEA for the construction of the hydrographic vessel A499 "Lana" according to the adapted OSV-190 SC-WB project. Construction began in August 2018. The ship was launched on September 24, 2020. The vessel was transferred to the Nigerian Navy Command in April 2021 in Saint-Nazaire (France) and arrived in Lagos on May 17, 2021.
