"The statements of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation about the interactions between the ships of both countries are incorrect," the Navy Times quotes the statement of the fleet command.
It states that, according to the US military, the interaction of Chafee with the Russian warship "was safe and professional."
"The USS Chafee has always acted in accordance with international rules and customs," the statement said.
"The United States will continue to operate at sea and in the sky wherever permitted by international law," it says.
On Friday, it was reported that the American military attache in Moscow was summoned to the Russian Defense Ministry in connection with the incident with the destroyer Chafee, which, according to the Russian military, tried to violate Russia's state border in the Sea of Japan.
"The military attache was pointed out to the unprofessional actions of the crew of the US Navy destroyer Chafee, who grossly violated the International Rules for Preventing Collisions at Sea and the provisions of the Russian-American intergovernmental agreement on the prevention of incidents on the high seas and in the airspace above it in 1972," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that the defense attache at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow was invited on Friday evening to the Main Directorate of International Military Cooperation of the Russian Defense Ministry.
"The representative of the US armed forces was informed of the position of the Russian military department in connection with the attempted violation of the state border of the Russian Federation by the US Navy destroyer Chafee on October 15 in the area of Peter the Great Bay," the report says.
On Friday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Tributs prevented the attempt of the destroyer Chafee to cross the state border of the Russian Federation in the Sea of Japan, forced it out of Russian territorial waters.
