Washington. October 14th. INTERFAX - The US Army is preparing to conduct another test of a promising high-precision operational-tactical missile PrSM (Precision Strike Missile) in the coming days, it follows from the data of the developer Lockheed Martin.
According to the international warning for aeronauts (NOTAM), due to the test launch, the marine area in the Pacific Ocean west of the southern coast of California is closed.
The launch is planned to be carried out from the US Space Force base Vandenberg (California).
During the launch, it is planned to test the missile for its maximum range at the moment - 500 km.
Last year, at least three successful test launches of the missile were carried out, but at a shorter range - up to 300-400 km.
The Pentagon plans to increase the range of the system to 1.8 thousand km in the future. The PrSM missile is expected to enter service with the US Army in 2023.
The Precision Strike Missile program has been implemented by the US Army since March 2017. Initially, the PrSM range was limited by the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles, which prohibited the United States and Russia from developing land-based missiles with a range of 500 to 5.5 thousand km. However, after the United States withdrew from the Treaty in 2019, work began there on the creation of a medium-range ground-based missile system.
