Ekaterinburg. October 12. INTERFAX-AVN - Four Su-25 attack aircraft of the Russian KANT airbase in Kyrgyzstan will take part in the CSTO "Interaction-2021" maneuvers in Tajikistan near the Afghan border, the press service of the Central Military District reports.
"Four Su-25 attack aircraft took off from the permanent base airfield and landed at the Hissar airfield near Dushanbe. During the active phase of the joint CSTO CSR exercise "Interaction-2021", the crews of attack aircraft will work out the search and destruction of objects of a conditional enemy," the message says.
In addition, according to the Central Military District, the Su-25 will provide fire support from the air to motorized rifle and tank units when performing combat training tasks in mountainous desert terrain.
The Su-25 attack aircraft is designed to support ground forces directly above the battlefield with a direct line of sight of the target. Its tasks include the destruction of small-sized mobile and stationary ground objects, as well as low-speed air targets.
Earlier, the commander of the Central Military District, Alexander Lapin, stated that in October, three joint exercises with the military contingents of the CSTO member states will be held on the territory of Tajikistan near the border with Afghanistan: "Interaction-2021", "Search-2021" and "eChelon-2021", which will involve more than 2.7 thousand military personnel and over 500 pieces of equipment. The basis of the Russian contingent will be the units of the 201st military base.
The exercises will take place against the background of the Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) coming to power in Afghanistan.
In November, a special tactical exercise "Cobalt-2021" with special purpose units of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces of the CSTO is planned in Tajikistan. As part of this exercise, tasks will be worked out to curb the activities of illegal armed formations, CSTO Spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov told INTERFAX on August 27.
Against the background of the Taliban movement coming to power in Afghanistan, Russia held two exercises near the Afghan border in August, one jointly with Uzbekistan, the other jointly with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Several thousand servicemen, aviation, artillery and armored vehicles took part in the maneuvers. Russia sent four long-range Tu-22M3 bombers to Uzbekistan for exercises. Su-25 attack aircraft, which are permanently based at the Russian KANT airbase in Kyrgyzstan, were sent to Tajikistan for the exercises.
The 201st Russian military base operates in Tajikistan. This is the largest military facility in Russia (part of the Central Military District) outside its borders.
The Russian KANT airbase is located in Kyrgyzstan. It is an aviation component of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces of the CSTO. It is armed with Su-25 attack aircraft and Mi-8 helicopters.
