There is evidence that the Taliban (banned in Russia) cannot control the security situation in the north of the country.
Moscow expects that they will be able to keep their promises not to pose a threat to third countries, said Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko.
"We are closely monitoring what is happening in Afghanistan, primarily in the northern territories. There is evidence, indeed, that the Taliban are unable to control the situation. But, nevertheless, we expect that the promises they made will be fulfilled," he told Interfax.
Thus, the diplomat commented on media reports that a number of armed groups that consider themselves to be the Taliban movement are ready to invade Tajikistan.
"If necessary, Tajikistan will be provided with all necessary assistance, both within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and on a bilateral basis," Rudenko stressed.
