London. October 8th. INTERFAX - If Iran fails to fulfill its promise to resume the Vienna negotiation process on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in the near future, Washington will be forced to look for other ways to solve the problem, said US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
"We have just heard (...) that Iran is ready to return (to negotiations - IF) within a few weeks. If this turns out not to be the case, then we will have to consult with allies and partners to find another way forward," he said in an interview with the BBC.
"If this really turns out to be the case, then we will see pretty quickly whether the Iranians are serious at the negotiating table or they are just going to stall and stall for time. This is not the game we are going to play," Sullivan stressed.
He added that the United States is "determined to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons."
"We will use all the tools at our disposal to make sure they don't," the Biden adviser added.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Said Khatibzadeh said on October 4 that Iran expects the resumption of negotiations in Vienna on the nuclear issue by early November.
"The current government of Ibrahim Raisi started work less than 55 days ago. I don't think a full return to negotiations will take as long as 90 days," Western media quoted Khatibzade as saying.
He did not provide any other information. The media, in turn, explain that, judging by these calculations, Tehran expects to resume the negotiation process by the beginning of November.
