The joint exercises "Selenga-2021" have ended in Mongolia. According to the Press Service of the Eastern Military District, the active phase with the participation of air defense units and the Mongolian army was held at the Doityn Am high-altitude training ground.
Russian tankers on T-72B3 and motorized infantry fighting vehicles BMP-2 units of the combined arms army stationed in the Republic of Buryatia acted against the conditional enemy.
The friendly forces, in turn, were armed with T-72A and BTR-70M armored personnel carriers. Effective fire support was provided by 122-mm D-30 and M-30 howitzers, BM-21 GRAD multiple launch rocket systems.
The armored vehicles were protected from air strikes by calculations of portable anti-aircraft missile systems, ZSU-23-4 anti-aircraft self-propelled guns and paired small-caliber ZU-23-2 guns mounted on Unimog car platforms.
"zUshki" once again demonstrated their high versatility by also destroying targets depicting a ground enemy.
It is reported that for the first time Russian helicopter pilots performed flights at a high-altitude training ground located at an altitude of 1600 meters.
The servicemen of the military police of the two countries practiced the skills of fighting saboteurs who tried to break through to strategically important objects.
In total, about 1,500 people and more than two hundred units of military equipment took part in the exercises.
The course of practical actions was observed by the Prime Minister of Mongolia L. Oyun-Erdene, the Minister of Defense of Mongolia G. Saikhanbayar. Also present at the final stage was the Deputy Commander of the Air Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Mikhail Nosulev.
At the end of all the events, the closing ceremony of the exercises with the passage of combat vehicles and the flight of army aviation was held in the city of Zuun Mod (Central Aimag, Mongolia).
