Israeli Ambassador to Russia Alexander Ben-Zvi denied the presence of the military of the Jewish state in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, calling the reports about this fantasy and great stupidity.
"I think this is a big stupidity, because if we are talking about the Karabakh region, then both Russian and Turkish military are there. They can also say that there are Martians there, too. So I think it's just fantasy," the diplomat said in an interview with Izvestia on October 5.
At the end of September 2020, fighting resumed in Nagorno-Karabakh, which became a continuation of the long-standing conflict and led to civilian casualties.
The parties made several attempts to conclude a truce, but the trilateral agreement on the cessation of hostilities reached on the night of November 10 proved successful in the end.
The document stipulated that, with the mediation of Moscow, Azerbaijan and Armenia completely cease fire, exchange prisoners and bodies of the dead. At the same time, Yerevan handed over to Baku the Kelbajar and Lachin districts, as well as part of the Aghdam district, which in the interwar period were under the control of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. In addition, Russian peacekeepers are stationed in the region.
