VLADIVOSTOK, October 5 - RIA Novosti. Artillery units of Russia and Mongolia at the joint exercises "Selenga-2021" for the first time used a reconnaissance and firing contour when applying a massive fire strike on the "enemy", the press service of the Air Defense Ministry reports.
"At the Doityn Am training ground in Mongolia, at the joint Russian-Mongolian exercise SELENGA-2021, artillery units of the armed forces of Russia and Mongolia for the first time used a reconnaissance and firing contour when delivering a massive fire strike on a conditional enemy," the report says.
For this purpose, for the first time, an artillery group consisting of several divisions was created at the Selenga exercises. The results of the fire destruction of targets were monitored using drones.
In addition, tank and motorized rifle units of the two countries jointly worked out reconnaissance, search and offensive actions. Air defense units with the help of anti-aircraft self-propelled guns "sHilka" and anti-aircraft guns ZU-23-2 destroyed the aircraft of the conditional enemy, after which they opened fire on ground targets simulating lightly armored vehicles of the "enemy".
The military exercises "Selenga-2021" take place in difficult climatic conditions of the mountainous steppe terrain. From the Russian side, it involves units of the combined arms association of the VVO, stationed in Buryatia. In total, up to 1.5 thousand servicemen take part in the exercises and over 200 units of combat and special equipment are involved.
"Selenga" has been held annually since 2008. Initially, tactical exercises with live firing took place, they were called "dArkhan" (translated from Mongolian - "Builder"). In 2011, the maneuvers were renamed after the name of the river originating in Mongolia, flowing through the territory of Buryatia and flowing into Lake Baikal, and received an anti-terrorist orientation.
