TSAMTO, October 4. On September 30, the Agency for the Acquisition of Defense Products under the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania signed a new contract with the German company Heckler und Koch GmbH for the purchase of additional G-36 assault rifles.
The total cost of the contract is 19 million euros (excluding VAT). Deliveries will be made during 2022-2023.
According to the Minister of National Defense Arvydas Anushauskas, the program to equip the Lithuanian Armed Forces with modern weapons continues.
According to him, the technical and tactical parameters of the G-36 meet the requirements of the Armed Forces of the country and guarantee that the reliable use of weapons will be provided in various tactical conditions on its territory and abroad.
G-36 rifles are being purchased to maintain the existing potential of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, as well as to replace outdated models of small arms.
Currently, the G-36 is chambered in 5.56 mm x 45 mm caliber manufactured by Heckler & Koch GmbH is the main small arms of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
As reported by TSAMTO, the G-36 became a regular armament of the Lithuanian Armed Forces in 2007, when the first contract with Heckler was signed & Koch. In August 2016, the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense signed a new contract worth 12.5 million euros for the supply of G-36 rifles and 40 mm HK269 grenade launchers. Their delivery was completed in 2017. In 2018, another batch of G-36 was purchased at a cost of 11 million euros ($12.6 million).
