The US has made it clear that it is working on a new nuclear doctrine. This was announced by Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO).
"In the United States, a very important process and document in this area is the nuclear doctrine. Apparently, every president reviews it. The US administration has made it clear that it has started this process and will publish a report on the new nuclear doctrine in the future," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti published on October 4.
Floyd added that he was looking forward to the result of the US administration's reflections on the nuclear doctrine.
Earlier, on September 23, Deputy Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Bonnie Jenkins announced that the United States Administration is resuming support for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and intends to work on its entry into force.
The previous administration of former US President Donald Trump in the updated nuclear doctrine announced its refusal to seek ratification and entry into force of the CTBT and reserved the right, if necessary, to resume nuclear tests, Jenkins recalled.
On February 1, the head of the strategic command of the US Armed Forces, Charles Richard, said that the United States should be ready for a nuclear war with China or Russia. Richard stressed that the Pentagon needs to perceive the threat of nuclear conflict as real, as well as develop new concepts of deterrence and nuclear warfare.
These statements caused confusion among the first deputy head of the International Committee of the Federation Council, Vladimir Dzhabarov. He noted that the current military usually do not like to speak out on this topic, as they are afraid of such a development of events.
